The Undeserved Gift of Grace
In our daily walk as a community in the Hispanic Ministry of Palm Lake Christian Church, we often face the challenge of healing wounds from the past. Forgiveness is one of the deepest themes of the Gospel and, at the same time, one of the hardest steps in the life of faith. We often hear the popular saying that to forgive is to forget. Yet the Bible teaches us that truly Christian forgiveness is not about magically erasing our memory; it is about letting God’s grace redeem our emotions.
What Scripture Teaches Us About Forgiving
In his Letter to the Ephesians, the apostle Paul reminds us of the foundation on which our forgiveness of others rests:
“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” — Ephesians 4:32
When we understand that we were forgiven by pure grace and not by our own merits, our hearts find the perspective we need to let go of the weight of resentment. Forgiving does not mean excusing someone’s wrong or minimizing the pain it caused; it means placing justice in God’s hands and deciding not to let the offense determine the peace of our future.
Practical Steps for Walking in Forgiveness
To experience the complete healing God offers, we can practice these principles every day:
Acknowledge the pain in prayer: God does not ask us to hide our wounds, but to bring them to Him honestly in our personal time of prayer.
Look to the cross: Remembering how much we have been forgiven in Jesus softens our hearts and breaks down our pride.
Decide to let go of bitterness: Forgiveness is a conscious decision of the will, upheld by the Holy Spirit, beyond whatever we may feel in the moment.
A Table Open to Restoration
In the Hispanic Ministry of Palm Lake Christian Church, we pray for one another. We invite you to join us for Sunday worship at 11:00 AM (English) or 2:00 PM (Spanish) at Palm Lake Christian Church, and to renew together the path of faith, grace and forgiveness.
